Faith Promise Missions

Morningside Community Church and the  Board of Missions is pleased to announce our new projects for the Faith Promise 2007-2008:

Local Missions (Judea)

  • Bentleys/Pass Creek Church of God: A Church of God work on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation; in transition following the retirement of long-time missionaries Paul and Kathy Bentley. Their son has taken up the work.
  • Stan Hallow Horn / Wounded Knee Church of God: Funds are used to assist work in the Family Life Center and with Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon programs in addition to supplying community Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners.
  • Carl Douglas/Smoke Signals: A work in Rapid City. Funds assist with Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners, and material support and supplies for dealing with substance abuse, child abuse and domestic violence. Church meets in their home.
  • T.J. Carlson/Morningside college group: Funds will offset travel costs to mission trips to Urban Scholastic Center in Kansas City, Kan., during spring break and for a fall missions trip as well.
  • Seth Sandau/Morningside youth group: Funds will offset travel costs to a mission trip to the Wounded Knee Reservation this summer as well as other unspecified mission work.

National Missions (Samaria)

  • Chuck Allen/Urban Scholastic Center: A work in the inner city of Kansas City, Kan. At least three missions trips from Morningside to Urban Scholastic Center have already been made to help with general outreach and facility improvement. The ministry provides spiritual, educational and social guidance.
  • Sean Dunn/Champion Ministries: This group places Christian radio ads nationwide on secular stations that are geared to youth, including the station on the SDSU campus. There also is a web/e-mail ministry to youth in crisis.
  • Mark Chase/Dawson McAllister Ministries: This is a nationwide radio ministry to teens in crisis. The call-in program is heard on Saturday and Sunday nights in Sioux Falls. Callers are referred to local churches for follow-up and Morningside has been used in this.

International Missions (Beyond)

  • Paul Maxfield/Child of Promise: Funds support Marisol Cholan and Narely Cubas, two schoolgirls in Chepen, Peru. Child of Promise is an arm of the Church of God. It works with local churches. The money provides schooling costs and helps with health and clothing needs.
  • Samaritan’s Purse/Operation Christmas Child: These funds help with handling costs for flying boxes around the world to needy children. The program also offers a Bible study program. Our donation also helps fund that.
  • Samaritan’s Purse/Darfur, Sudan: These funds assist in the humanitarian crisis in this African country. Primary activities include food distribution, setting up schools in refugee camps, teaching health awareness, and providing clean water.
  • Danny Gregory/Church of God missionary: The Gregorys are new missionaries. They visited Zambia in 2001 and felt a call to return there as permanent missionaries. Projects in Zambia include training pastors, developing properties, and funding and equipping rural health clinics.
  • Mike Kinner/OMS International missions: Mike’s home church is Morningside. He has served 23 years in mission work, including 20 with the Church of God. In his current position he assists churches, missionaries, and missionary recruits in developing ministry partnerships.
